An Introduction to Northampton This large town was once the rural capital of England. It has many exciting things to offer its residents. One is the annual hot air ballooon festival. We all love a good balloon! These are pretty balloons in a variety of shapes and sizes. My favourite is action man who lets out a peculiar orange gas occassionally. So if you're in the area in august sometime, check out the balloon festival. Its rockin! | ![]() | ![]() |

Lieing beneath this pretty array of balloons, lurks a town, visually normal, yet for those in the know, something is a little strange. You see this town is populated by alot of kids who look weird. The boys have been let lose on their mums eyeliner. The girls wear black. At the top end of town, there is no colour. Old people fear for their lives as they walk the streets of the town. They may be mowed down by a skater, or worse, they may die in shock of seeing such bad makeup techniques. Kids lurk in the graveyard, they crowd outside Spinadisc, they even sit outside the bank of Scotland on the... *drum roll* pavement. ![]() Re-enacting the sleeve of a Gehanna album. I think they are a German death metal band, I could be wrong! (They have song titles such as "I f**ked your mum".. how rude) Set in the appropriate and oh so familiar graveyard. (We were young) ![]() ![]() I was a young hippy gothy type effort- they made me! I didn't know any better! ![]() Some seemed to find the whole experience quite daunting! (oh it is a trendie (my mate) in a wig.. I'm not really surprised!) | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Back in my day, there were fewer of us. We did sit in the graveyard, cluster around Spinadisc, line the pavement, and even get up to mischief in KFC (mostly the toilets). But we were cooler, we dressed better, and we mutilated our bags in style. There were no Slipknot hoodies in sight. The guys appeared to handle their eyeliner better. Korn were still good (or seemed so at the time). Yet still the scene we left is pretty dark. Here are some pics to show you some of our mischief... ![]() anuses were a yeah! There used to be a club. It was called Bass Clef. It used to be good. There was a manager with an axe, dodgy-dealing bouncers, transvestites, leery lesbians, scummy toilets (for couples), gang-banging bikers, old trampy men, true rockers, 80s throw-backs, metallers, grungy kids, many old goths, hippies, many colourful strippy tights, and guys with hankies. There was a stage for people to pass out on. It let us in (we were young, a few were younger). Many a night was wasted, it smelt good. It was *very* dark. On Fridays they played a 2 hr segment of death metal (probably Norwegian). It rocked! ![]() Strange things happened outside. Furry things entered the club. ![]() ... and inside! ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |

But then, the worse happened. Bass Clef got painted, the colour was not black. The DJs changed. Numbers dwindled. Another club came back to compete with BCs for the strange people of Northampton. Bass Clef turned shit. So we went to Madisons. ![]() The people were still cool (*most* of them). Some had colourful hair (inc facial), others had weird fringes. But again, the fate of the club was not good, it got demolished, Madisons was no more. Northampton had no alternative club on a Saturday for 2 years. | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Nights out were never quite the same. But we had good times. More wastedness, newer people. Nu-metal became popular. The people.. some were the same, the average age was younger. Here are some pics from outside Madisons. ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |

Some people went out on Thursdays instead. It was ok. But it was never really the same (infact it was shit). But, now, there is a new night. It is once a month at the Soundhaus, just recently I heard it was to become fortnightly, it seems ok. Northampton no longer has to suffer the absence of an alternative club. The kids have somewhere to go, if they can get in. Now everything is ok. Except they don't play any punk, ska or hardcore, which is sucky. People here have no taste. Ok sorry some do and its not as dingy as I make out. Well enough of my waffling for this page..! | ![]() | ![]() |
